A silent day of continuous practice in Federal Way at the beautiful Dumas Bay Centre. This facility, located on a bluff overlooking Puget Sound with an unimpeded view of the Olympic Mountains, offers a mixture of comfortable accommodations and a peaceful setting.
This day-long retreat will be led by Mindfulness Northwest senior teacher Karen Schwisow who will guide us in a sequence of meditation and mindfulness practices including: sitting meditation, the body scan, walking meditation (indoors and out!), gentle mindful yoga, and contemplative practices like the loving-kindness meditation.
The retreat is designed especially for those who have taken Mindfulness Northwest classes. A day to gather, see old friends, and reinvigorate our practice together. Others with teacher-led meditation experience or a background in contemplative practice are invited to join as well. If you are totally new to meditation this day may be a challenge but you're welcome to inquire; and, for some, "jumping in" is a great way to start.

$50 - $90 regular sliding scale fee (paying on the higher end makes the lower end possible, our usual built-in "scholarship" system). Alumni of our multi-week classes may register at the $35 level (or consider contributing more to support those in greater financial need).
Payment plans are available during registration (4 equal monthly payments; no financing fee).

Additional Course details:
A day of immersion into mindfulness, stress reduction, and body awareness. Formal practices including body scan, mindful yoga, sitting and walking meditation, all practiced together in silence.
This course will be taught by Mindfulness Northwest senior instructor Karen Schwisow.
A hearty, vegan, gluten-free lunch will be provided. Due to the terms of the venue, outside food cannot be brought in.
- Layered clothing (including rain gear) as we often do walking meditation outside when possible.
- A blanket for keeping warm during times of stillness or lying down.
- An exercise or yoga mat if you have one.
- A meditation cushion or bench if you prefer (there will also be chairs to use).

MBSR is a well-researched class designed by Jon Kabat-Zinn and the Center for Mindfulness at the Univ. of Massachusetts. It has proven very effective in helping with many stress-related issues.
