    Looking for support to continue your practice after taking one of our courses? Join our weekly online drop-in mindfulness group led by Mindfulness Northwest teachers.

    Monday evenings 7 PM - 8:30 PM starting September 24, 2018 (skipping major holidays like Christmas Eve, New Year's Eve, etc.)

    Cost & Options
    You may attend one session for free to ascertain suitability. To receive information on how to connect to the weekly session, please Register using the no-cost RSVP option.

    Thereafter, we ask you to enter into a monthly subscription at one of the following monthly rates (once subscribed, you're entitled to attend the weekly Online Practice Group as often as you'd like):

    • $10: Scholarship Fee (those needing a scholarship fee or intending to only occasionally attend)
    • $20: Students, Seniors, and those that need a Subsidized Fee (or intending to only occasionally attend)
    • $30: Supporting Fee (the regular fee)
    • $40: Sustaining Fee (offering support to MNW and those needing a Subsidized Fee)
    • $50: Benefactor Fee (offering even more support to MNW and those needing a Subsidized Fee)

    A silent day of continuous practice at beautiful Semiahmoo

    A silent day of continuous practice at the gorgeous Semiahmoo County Park north of Bellingham - a very beautiful and peaceful location for practice on the spit surrounding Drayton Harbor, across from Blaine. We'll practice together inside their historic Cannery Lodge, with options for walking meditation and lunch break time outside on the water.


    This day-long retreat will be led by Mindfulness Northwest guiding teacher Tim Burnett. Tim will lead us in a sequence of meditation and mindfulness practices including: sitting meditation, the body scan, walking meditation (indoors and out!), gentle mindful yoga, and contemplative practices like the loving-kindness meditation.

    The retreat is designed especially for those who have taken Mindfulness Northwest classes. A day to gather, see old friends, and re-invigorate our practice together. Others with teacher-led meditation experience or a background in contemplative practice are invited to join as well. If you are totally new to meditation this day may be a challenge but you are welcome to inquire - for some "jumping in" is a great way to start.

    • Layered clothing (including rain gear) as we often do walking meditation outside when possible.
    • A blanket for keeping warm during times of stillness or lying down.
    • An exercise or yoga mat if you have one.
    • A meditation cushion or bench if you prefer (there will also be chairs to use).
    • A commuter mug for tea if desired.

    This course will be taught by Mindfulness Northwest director and guiding teacher Tim Burnett.

MBSR is a well-researched class designed by Jon Kabat-Zinn and the Center for Mindfulness at the University of Massachusetts. Are you struggling with chronic conditions such as chronic pain, depression, and anxiety? Are you feeling as if life is too much? Or do you simply want to live a fuller life with greater balance?

    Recent research shows Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) reduces chronic pain and boosts the immune system; addresses painful mental states like depression and anxiety; minimizes emotional reactivity and promotes well-being; increases flexible attention and sharpens mental focus; and actually thickens grey matter in the areas of empathy and problem-solving. Happiness is a delightful by-product.

    Course details:
    Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction is a structured 8-week course on mindfulness that reduces stress, and promotes health and well being.  This highly participatory, practical course includes:

    • Guided instruction in mindfulness meditation practices
    • Gentle stretching and mindful yoga
    • Inquiry exercises to enhance awareness in everyday life
    • Group dialogue and small group exercises
    • Daily home assignments
    • Guided audio files for home practice
    • a 50-page workbook with short readings, a guide to the course, and resources to support your ongoing investigation of mindfulness

    Continuing Education Credits

    Please note that this is a community class and all are welcome to join. This section provides the details for those choosing to request CE credits. CE credits are granted per class. If participants miss a class, those CE credits cannot be made up at a later date.  In addition, participants must be registered for this class by week two (2) in order to also register for CE credits.

    Target Audience:
    Psychologists, Licensed Mental Health Counselors (LMHC), Social Workers (LCSW), Marriage and Family Therapists (LMFT), Registered Dietitians, and Nurses.

    Join us for our annual weekend retreat of mindfulness practices in the style of Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction at a beautiful retreat site in the Skagit Valley.

    Course details

    This residential retreat will be held mostly in silence and will include a series of gently guided mindfulness practices including sitting meditation, walking meditation, gentle yoga, and the body scan. Informative talks on the process of being on retreat, mindfulness, stress reactivity, and other topics will be presented by the instructors. Small and large group discussion centered around our experience together walking, sitting, and breathing in the quiet of the beautiful retreat site. This course is designed for graduates of mindfulness classes - please see the prerequisites below.

    Simple accommodations and all meals will be included.

    Details on what to bring will be sent upon registration.

    Schedule 

    March 29 - 31, 2019:
    Starts Friday with 4pm - 5pm check-in.
    Closes on Sunday by 2pm after lunch and camp clean-up.

    Before practicing for a full weekend we recommend that you have experience with mindfulness or related contemplative practices. Please contact us with any questions.

    Location
    Samish Island Campground, 11565 Scott Road, Bow, Washington. Instructions and details will be provided when you register. Samish is about 90 minutes north of Seattle and 40 minutes south of Bellingham.

    This beautiful campground maintained by the Community of Christ at the east end of Samish Island (accessible by road) offers stunning views, deep quiet, and simple accommodations. 

    It is not really an island - you can drive there.

    And it's not exactly a campground - there are simple rustic cabins and motel-like "e-cabins" available (see "Accommodations", below, for more details). RV and tent camping is also available.

    Accommodations
    Samish Island "Campground" does not require camping. There are two types of cabins: rustic cabins, which are simple plywood cabins built in the 1950's - they have heat, beds, and share campground bathroom buildings; and e-cabins, which are modern motel-level buildings where two units share a bathroom.

    The 40 rustic cabins are quieter and simpler but one must walk across the lawn to the bathrooms.

    The 16 e-cabins are lighter, more modern, and share a bathroom. There can be more noise in e-cabins due to the sharing of the bathroom and we ask e-cabin residents to be very careful of the noise from doors and bathroom fixtures so as not to disturb their neighbor.

    A surcharge is required for lodging in the more modern e-cabins. A $15 surcharge is required for double occupancy in an e-cabin (with a single roommate), and a $30 surcharge is required for single occupancy.

    Consider helping us make e-cabins available to more people, and save $15, by requesting double occupancy. We will do our best to match you with a compatible roommate and to honor requests for roommates if you are coming to retreat with a friend.

    Expectations of Participants

    By signing up for this retreat you are agreeing to:

    1) Follow the Schedule - participate in the practice schedule as fully as possible. We allow alternate schedules and variations in the schedule due to health needs. This is a structured weekend of practice with a schedule of practices we will do together starting first thing in the morning. That structure is a powerful support for deepening our mindfulness practice.

    2) Do jobs and chores - do some chores around the camp. You will have the option of choosing an ongoing job or helping with cleaning and organizing at the end of the week. The Samish Island Campground is staffed by a small volunteer staff and costs are held low by asking the visiting group to leave the camp as clean as they found it.
