The Roots of Mindfulness 2017

LECTURES FROM THE BUDDHIST ROOTS OF MINDFULNESS RETREAT, OCTOBER 2017

In October 2017, Mindfulness Northwest director and leader teacher Tim Burnett co-led a 7-day silent mindfulness retreat with Robin Boudette. Tim and Robin gave daily talks exploring Beginner's Mind and the Foundational Attitudes of mindfulness training as expressed by several teachers: principally Shuryu Suzuki Roshi and Jon Kabat-Zinn.

The primary texst for the lectures were:

The Foundational Attitudes

The 7 Foundational Attitudes for mindfulness training according to Jon Kabat-Zinn (see his Full Catastrophe Living, chapter 2)

  1. Non-Judging
  2. Patience
  3. Beginner's Mind
  4. Trust
  5. Non-Striving
  6. Acceptance
  7. Letting Go
To which many add some of the following:
  1. Willingness
  2. Humor
  3. Kindness
  4. Honesty
