In this core meditation practice, we direct attention to the sensations associated with breathing as our bodies inhale and exhale. This practice is a powerful tool for grounding in our experience of the present moment. Other breath practices like Breath Counting and Affectionate Breathing build upon this foundation.
As with all meditation practices, the moment we see that the mind has wandered (and gently, kindly bring it back to the breath) is just another valuable moment of mindful awareness. Meeting any judgement we notice in these moments with a warm curiosity can soften negative habits of mind, and build our ability to relate to our thoughts rather than react to them.
