Join MNW instructor Beth Glosten in a half-day exploration of meditation in nature to deepen and expand your practice. Sitting outside offers sensory experiences that tune our attention to the present. The myriad sounds, sensations, smells, and the array of natural colors offer portals into the richness of every moment in nature and awaken our natural ability to listen, feel, and sense.
This half-day will be spent mostly in silence, with opportunities for questions and comments. As such, having some meditation experience will be helpful.
Through this deliberate time outside we can embrace the lessons of the natural world: impermanence, gratitude, patience, and connectedness, and gain inspiration from the challenges and changing dynamics of the natural world. Let’s remember the mystery of life, and feel a part of the world around us.
This experience will take place, rain or shine, at Seward Park in Seattle, WA, at one of the picnic shelters (map). The shelters are open on all sides, and includes several picnic tables and benches on a concrete floor. There is a public bathroom a short walk from the shelter.
Bring adequate clothing and items you’ll need to sit comfortably in meditation, such as a chair or a cushion (perhaps in a trash bag to protect from the concrete floor or wetness). Consider bringing a blanket, raincoat and hat, and other warm layers. The picnic tables and benches can be used for sitting.
Mindfulness Northwest is unable to provide additional chairs, mats, or refreshments.
We will also do several periods of walking meditation on nearby paths and a grassy field. Please wear footwear suitable for uneven surfaces and/or possible wet grass.
Also bring a snack or lunch and water or other beverages you might want — we will take a break for lunch at midday.

ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR
Beth Glosten, M.D.
(she/her) Teacher
Beth attended the University of Washington School of Medicine and had an academic anesthesiology career until physical issues prompted her to step back from that hectic life. She studied pilates, and through this system embraced moving mindfully. She was drawn to meditation several years ago and found it meshed naturally with her approach to teaching movement: turn focus inward to listen to, and befriend, one’s self. From this place, growth and healing are possible. This journey led her to Mindfulness Northwest where she completed both of our teacher training programs and became certified as a teacher of Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR). Beth particularly appreciates being able to serve fellow healthcare providers in our Mindfuless for Healthcare program.
