Unwinding Anxiety

ONLINE

3-hour workshop

Stress Eating? Binge surfing? Worrying? Procrastinating?
Do you feel stuck in patterns that keep you from living your life?
Anxiety is often beneath these patterns.

In the chaos of our everyday lives, we often run on auto-pilot finding ourselves caught in unhealthy habit patterns. These habits rob us of happiness, health, sleep, and connections with family, friends, and even ourselves. While mindfulness has been around for thousands of years, recent research has helped us understand how it works in the brain and the neural pathways that make the practice of mindfulness effective in habit change.

Mindfulness-Based Habit Change (MBHC) is based on the work of psychiatrist and neuroscience researcher Judson Brewer, MD Ph.D. as described in his recent book Unwinding Anxiety and in the article How Anxiety Hides Your Habits. Integrating both ancient wisdom and new learnings from neuroscience, we take a step-by-step approach to habit change that has been demonstrated to be effective with smoking cessation, alleviating stress eating, and reducing anxiety.

In this workshop, participants will:

  • Become aware of habit loops
  • Bring mindfulness to your experience to explore the results of your actions
  • Tune-in to the effects of healthy, life-sustaining habits

Our time together will include short practices, reflections, discussion and breakout groups, as well as the possibility for some mindful movement practice.

Note: This workshop is appropriate for those who have some experience with mindfulness practice.

Looking to spend more time working with habits? Lish’s 6-week Online Habit Change course starts March 28th.
